It’s Electric!

Electric Stimulation therapy that is (for muscles). What is this therapy, and when on earth would we use something like this?

We use our muscle stimulation device to help a wide variety of muscular complaints. From acute pain to chronic pain, there is a good chance this therapy could be right for you! You may see this therapy used to help with general pain, muscle spasms, sciatic nerve pain, inflammation reduction, range of motion deficits, general lower back pain, general shoulder/upper back pain, and more. Electric stimulation therapy at Salt and Spine Chiropractic is among many therapies that our practitioners believe best help deliver good results for their adjustments. Using this modality, the doctors can treat your complaint from a different angle, which can prove positive in addressing the roots of your pain complaints.

How does it address all of these issues, even though they are all so different? The key is how many programs are available. At Salt and Spine, we currently offer 7 different therapeutic waveforms to address a broad array of conditions, to which we narrow down different parameters to best address the diagnosis at hand.

Your exam and history will tell the doctor if you need muscle stimulation or not. There are over-the-counter versions of the therapy, but these may not have the same effect that medical-grade muscle stimulation can offer. Some of the normal sensations you may feel during the therapy include: tingling, twitchy, mild stinging, muscle contraction/twitch, and maybe even burning. The voltage is adjustable, so it should be relatively comfortable during the treatment!
These different sensations vary by person, and by the treatment type.

At our office, we make the treatment type decision based on your exam and history. We have decided to incorporate this form of therapy in our office because of the potential benefits that it can provide to help with the adjustment. There may be other therapy forms used at the same time as the E-stim is placed on your body, such as a heat or ice pad (depending on your case history). These can be used to help with pain which could in turn help the results of the stimulator. Our practitioners will likely perform this therapy prior to receiving your adjustment for the day to help with the muscle component. By doing this, we are trying to relax your muscles to ensure a better response to the adjustment. Come see if electric stimulation therapy is right for you!
