We love this time of year! From spending time with family, to reflecting on the past year and transitioning into the new year, there is nothing like dedicating time to what is important. Speaking of, it is important to remember your health does not take holidays. Obviously, those Christmas cookies are not going to eat themselves, and the Cowboys are not going to watch themselves (at least yet), but from your doctors at Salt and Spine, please remember to stay healthy! “Motion is Lotion,” so keep moving through the holiday season to help make sure your joints stay moving well.
A lot of time, we have found that patient’s will dedicate the majority of their resolutions to health related objectives. In general, New Year’s resolutions have an extremely high failure rate by February. A lot of times, it is because patients will over-do an activity and your body may not necessarily be ready for it. When setting health intentions, it is important to follow-through with the goals that you set, and set objectives to reach those goals. Going from 0.0 miles to 26.2 miles should not be done in 2 weeks…it is a process that starts and with patience, can be reached over time.
Some good suggestions for creating a foundation that is suitable for a new year-new you include: maintain proper hydration, consume a healthy, well-rounded diet, strive for the recommended duration of sleep, and exercise an appropriate amount based on what your body has been doing for an extended amount of time to ensure you do not hurt yourself. Of course, keep up to date with your Chiropractic care to help with preventative care throughout the year!
January is perfect for easing into good habits that you can maintain for the remainder of the year. By February, you can ramp up your goals to a “next level.” By incorporating these good-health habits and establishing them in tiers, you may be more likely to hold onto them without dropping your new year’s resolution. If you are starting a new exercise routine, our doctors can help you gauge an appropriate tier system so injury is less likely.
Finally, we recommend you keep up with your adjustments! Just like a teeth cleaning, your chiropractic adjustments can be a good tool to prevent conditions from occuring in the future. The adjustment works to restore misaligned joints to their proper position, which allows the nervous system to perform at its optimal natural function. With the right chemical content (from good hydration practice, healthy diet, and regular exercise), an adjustment can help you maintain a great level of health in general! Whether you are in excruciating pain from an injury, or just want to try it and see what an adjustment can do for you, we have the right care available for you. Be sure to contact us or schedule your appointment for any questions you may have about starting your new year off with a new you!
